Now only half alive, reaching upwards for the light
growing through the rotted forest floor, gagging on the fermented world

The wretched smoke it burns your lungs, will you give up when it gets to much
A hollow guilt forms in your bones, but the guilt alone is never enough

Now a towering tree touching the blackened sky
Its roots forced between tectonic plates, ripping them apart
Like a cancer it grows, so large and so slow
Now in its choking grasp and you truly feel alone

Then it begins, the smallest of fractures
The leaves begin to rot and fall
Decaying in brilliant colors, scattering away
The roots recede

And the towering tree sways in the wind
Swaying one last time before it finally falls down
